"Big John" Murray - Rock Of Love/Monsters Of Rock Cruise

“Big John” Murray
– Rock Of Love/Monsters Of Rock Cruise

“Big John” Murray, who appeared in two seasons of VH1’s “Rock Of Love” with Poison front man Bret Michaels in 2008 and 2009, appeared on the November 18th edition of “Another FN Podcast With Izzy Presley” and made a startling confession.  On May 28th, 2010, he nearly committed suicide.

While talking about the extent of his drug and alcohol use, he admitted this publicly for the first time ever:

It got so bad, I’ll never forget this. Memorial Day weekend, May 28th, 2010 I was in Salt Lake City; nobody knows this, well maybe a few people know this.

I sat in a dark room about three in the morning and I put a pistol in my mouth.  I cocked it and said, “OK dad”.  I sat there for a minute contemplating, contemplating.

I had seen and done it all.  The “Rock Of Love” and everything was already done; THAT made it even worst, because then everybody wanted to party with ya, and I got into such a hole that I was just like, “I’m done.  I’m done with this, I don’t want it anymore”.

I put a pistol in my mouth and I sat there and thought about it and said, “OK Dad, you’ve got 24 hours to prove to me or give me a sign, or something, to show my why I’m here”.

I’ll be damned that the next day I didn’t meet the woman that is now my wife.

When asked what stopped him, he replied, “It was almost like there was something pushing on my hand to get it back out of my mouth.”

He went on to say that veterans (which he is) are killing themselves at a rate of 22 a day, so he is not afraid to talk about what happened to him and share his story.  “I have a story where I was a hair pull away of a trigger of ending it all to turning it around and living…I wouldn’t change any of it for the world.”

Throughout the interview, he talked about how the fame from the TV show combined with the drugs and alcohol turned him into someone he wasn’t and how fame in itself is a drug.  At one point he was up to a half gallon of Jim Beam a day.

Murray also told stories about his days as a professional wrester in ECW, working with bands like RATT, Cinderella, and Saliva, and doing cocaine with Kid Rock. He also ended the long argument about Bret Michaels hair. “It’s the most expensive hair extensions you can buy”.

Big John is currently residing in Cincinnati and spending time with his mother who is aging.  He will be back on the Monsters Of Rock Cruise in 2015.

MANAGING PARTNER OF LA KISS, BRETT BOUCHY, COMPARES RAVEN’S OWNER STEVE BISCIOTTI TO DONALD STERLING

September 23, 2014

For Immediate Release

MANAGING PARTNER OF LA KISS, BRETT BOUCHY, COMPARES RAVEN’S OWNER STEVE BISCIOTTI TO DONALD STERLING

The KISS inspired Podcast, Three Sides Of The Coin welcomed Brett Bouchy, the managing partner of the LA KISS to discuss the team, the Arena Football League, “4th And Loud”, working with Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, and how the NFL and Baltimore Ravens handled the Ray Rice situation. 4AL-Cast-Brett-590x375-I

Hosts Michael Brandvold, Tommy Sommers, and Mark Cicchini get into a discussion with Brett regarding Ray Rice.  Bouchy said what surprised him was the response to the video when everybody knew what had already happened and the reason Rice was released was because the NFL and the Ravens were going to lose corporate partners. Then he went on to compare the Ray Rice situation to Ray Lewis and call out Steve Bisciotti, comparing him to Donald Sterling.

Bouchy said,“Two days prior [to the video being released of Rice knocking out his then fiancé], they were talking about what a great guy Ray Rice was.  They were trying to rehabilitate his image and then you look at the Baltimore Ravens and what happened with Ray Lewis.

On January 31st, 2000, Ray Lewis was in [an] altercation which left 2 people dead.  There was a brawl.  He was indicted. He went to a trial.  He pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor and you know what? Back then there wasn’t social media and it just kind of died and it went away and now there’s a statue out front of the Raven’s stadium.

It is appalling that nobody has really brought that up about the Ravens.  Steve Bisciotti, who’s the Raven’s owner who put that statue up?  You can put him in the same class as Donald Sterling, from my stand point, because what he did was disgusting because of the double standard that was created with Ray Lewis.”

“We don’t know what happend, but at the end of the day, we know something happened that he was a part of and how you can celebrate him like that, with a statue, is appauling to me” he continued.

Bouchy also discussed the LA KISS, their dismal season, the tv show “4th And Loud, and much, much more.

CINDERELLA GUITARIST JEFF LABAR DISCUSSES HIS NEW RECORD AND GETTING PULLED OVER WHILE SMOKING CRACK

September 23, 2014

For Immediate Release

Jeff LaBar, Cinderella’s guitar player joined Izzy Presley on Another FN’ Podcast to talk about his new record “One For The Road”, which is available now via iTunes, Amazon, RAT PAK records, and Best Buy. http://www.ratpakrecordsamerica.com/jefflabarJeff Labar CD Cover

While talking about the record, LaBar tells stories about he and former Skid Row front man Sebastian Bach ended up rooming together at the Moscow Music Peace Festival because then Skids drummer, Rob Affuso booted Bach from their room.

He also talked about how Tom Keifer gave him a 1959 Sunburst Les Paul, the horrible deal that was offered to Cinderella by Gene Simmons before they were signed which basically said that Gene would get all of the publishing, own everything, and all songs would be written or co-written by Simmons.

Jeff then went on to reveal the story of how he was pulled over by the police  in the 90’s on his way to visit his son, who was about 3 at the time, while smoking crack and carrying a couple bundles of heroine.  “The less Cinderella worked, the more heroine I did, and the more heroine I did, the more crack I smoked”. After a court ordered stint in rehab, he was clean.

LaBar had been clean for years until his hip replacement surgery in 2011, when his doctors gave him pain killers…and more pain killers.  Whenever he asked for more, they gave them to him.  He did a stint in rehab and has been off them since. He called doctors and pain managers “legal drug dealers”.

When asked if that is why he was able to get out and play 10 days after the surgery, LaBar replied “Absolutely”.  “I couldn’t walk but I could play guitar”.

FORMER KISS PUBLICIST CAROL ROSS TALKS ABOUT THE STRUGGLES OF MARKETING A NEW BAND TODAY

August 29, 2014

For Immediate Release

The KISS inspired Podcast, Three Sides Of The Coin welcomed former KISS publicist Carol Ross to the show to discuss her time working for the band. She tells stories of how she was responsible for iconic KISS moments like putting their blood in the red ink for their first comic book and the Empire State Building photo shoot.

Hosts Michael Brandvold and Tommy Sommers chat with her about the band’s marketing the band and how difficult it was to sell them to publications like Rolling Stone Magazine.

During the interview, Carol talks about marketing bands today compared to the pre-internet era:

“Everything is social media now, basically” she said.

Carol Ross & Ace Frehley

“The music business is so different today. It used to be a community and record companies would sign a band and if the band didn’t have a hit single or hit album the first time around they gave them another opportunity.  They would invest in the band if they believed in the band.

Today, that’s unheard of; nobody will give you anything.  Ultimately today, the young artists have to do everything themselves. They have to be their own record company, they have to do their promotion, they have to do everything themselves. There is not really a place to go anymore. It’s an absolutely different world” she continued.

“For what I do, I have to deal with social media. That’s where you have the concentration. Yeah, there’s magazines like Rolling Stone and there are lots of different magazines and you have to deal with all of that as well. But, really, getting their music out and making sure that it’s on the internet in all of the different outlets and it’s much harder today to break an artist than it was years ago.”

Carol also goes on to say that since she has been told by every record company that they are not signing anybody, the artist has to do everything by themselves and she doesn’t know what would happen with KISS if they were coming out today because “it’s a very strange marketplace now”.

This episode is a great journey through the mind of one of the geniuses who helped turn KISS into the biggest band in the world.  It is a great listen for not only KISS fans, but a great marketing lesson for any up and coming band.  You get to hear how the big boys do it.

THREE SIDES OF THE COIN REVIEW ACE FREHLEY’S “SPACE INVADER”

For Immediate Release

“My favorites are the ’78 (Ace Frehley KISS Solo Record) and “Trouble Walkin’”, but I can’t say that this one doesn’t shove it’s way up in there”

– Tommy Sommers

“Guitars sound super crisp, clean, right up front; Just love it”

– Michael Brandvoldcustom-yt-thumbnail86

The KISS inspired Podcast, Three Sides Of The Coin, sit down and review the brand new Ace Frehley release “Space Invader”.  Hosts Michael Brandvold and Tommy Sommers break it down track by track for their listeners, rate it out of 10 stars, and pick their favorite and least favorite tracks on the release.

As the boys dissect the album track by track, they also give their opinions on Ace comparing it to his ’78 solo record and how it stacks up agains Ace’s last release “Anomaly” along with listing their favorite records that Ace has put out.

They both agree that they like the album. Brandvold gives it a 6-7 out of ten while Sommers says it’s between a 7 and 7 1/2, they also agree that some of the vocals aren’t what they should be and a producer like Eddie Kramer would have taken the record to a whole other level.

Here is the track listing for the standard release version which is what they reviewed:

‘Space Invader’

‘Gimme a Feelin” (radio edit)

‘I Wanna Hold You’

‘Change’ –

‘Toys’ –

‘Immortal Pleasures’

‘Inside the Vortex’

‘What Every Girl Wants’

‘Past the Milky Way’

‘Reckless’

‘The Joker’

‘Starship’

Ace Von Johnson From Faster Pussycat Talks About New Faster Pussycat Music And Danny’s Drunken Tumble

Hollywood, CA – Ace Von Johnson from Faster Pussycat stopped by Another FN’ Podcast to chat with Izzy Presley about new Pussycat music, dealing with fans who yell for original members, The Monsters Of Rock Cruise, their upcoming “Bang Your Head” tour with Quiet Riot/Bullet Boys/Gilby Clarke, and tells the story of Pussycat’s bass player Danny “Tender” Nordahl’s now infamous drunken tumble into the drum riser.  He also goes on to talk about his love for dogs and what he does to help shelters.

Von Johnson says that the new Faster Pussycat could out before the Summer tour, but for sure there will be a new Faster Pussycat release before the end of the year. It will contain the track “Pretty Ugly” along with another track they have been playing live up to this point.

It may be an EP with another EP to follow with a combined full length release to follow with extra tracks, but nothing is set in stone yet.

Ace also went on to talk about their bass player Danny “Tender” Nordahl taking a header into the drum kit in March that has become an YouTube hit.

“If he had really hurt himself, I would be really upset, but because he was so drunk that he just collapsed like a pile of laundry and just got back up….sort of, it’s funny”.

He also went on to say he just had one of those days and he was partying all day, they saw it coming and it WASN’T the first song of the set.  He actually went shoulder first into the drum riser and his head never hit the drums.

“It’s a little embarrassing when that shit happens and I am sure anyone else in the band would have felt the same way if it had been me” he said, but also when he saw the video that he was laughing so hard he was crying.

I think Taime Downe said it best when it happened “Fuckin Rock & Roll”.

Hairball Ready for Another Successful Summer

hairball_faces_2013“THE BEST COVER BAND I’VE EVER HEARD IN MY LIFE” – Alice Cooper

In December of 2013, Hairball played what could be considered the biggest shows of their career.

On December 5th they traveled to Las Vegas, NV to play the Brennan Rock And Roll Academy benefit where they were the backing band for many of the icons they pay homage to in their everyday show. Alice Cooper and Dee Snider (Twisted Sister) both sang in front of them along with the likes of Tom Keifer (Cinderella), Vince Neil (Mötley Crüe), Stephen Pearcy (RATT), Jack Blades (Night Ranger), Kip Winger (Winger), Joey Tempest (Europe), and Joan Jett, while KISS closed the show. Then they did it one more time on Saturday the 7th in Phoenix for Alice Cooper’s Christmas Pudding Benefit.

Cooper not only called them the “best cover band I’ve ever seen” but went on to say that Hairball does Alice Cooper just as good as his band does.

This was all on the heels of huge shows in Mexico, Sturgis, Moondance Jam, and playing for the Minnesota Vikings in London, England prior to their game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The show keeps growing and growing along with their fan base, as the band keeps expanding their reach to more parts of the United States and the world. Crossing the country and crossing the boarders, Hairball is well on their way while winning over crowds every night.

Interviews and press materials are available by contacting Izzy Presley Productions at izzy@izzypresleyproductions.com. 651-285-1830 www.hairballonline.com

is a Rock & Roll experience you won’t soon forget. A band puts on a concert-Hairball puts on an event! The lights, sound, smoke, fire, bombs, and screaming hoards of avid fans…to merely call it a concert would be like calling Mount Rushmore a roadside attraction!

Vocalists Rockstar Bob, Joe Dandy, and Kris Voxx lead the band through a 2-hour, mind-blowing, and drop-dead accurate homage to some of the biggest arena acts in the world. Van Halen, KISS, Motley Crue, Queen, Journey, Prince and Aerosmith are but a few of the acts fans will see brought to life. The Hairball stage becomes an entirely new rock concert before your very eyes countless times throughout the night.

The motor that drives the Hairball dragster consists of Freaky on the electric bass, Blake on the drums, and Happy on the lead guitar. These Rock & Roll soldiers pride themselves on nailing some of the most memorable licks and chops of all time, while adding their own style and flare that they’ve cultivated over dec- ades of tireless performing. These guys live and breathe Rock & Roll! 2013 finds Hairball celebrating its 13th year of rocking hundreds of thousands of people across the country. Every day it adds more characters, more pyrotechnics, more lights, more sound, more props, more surprises…more everything! While Happy often tells the audience “Today is the first day is the rest of your life!” Hairball performs every show as though it could be its last. Every night is a 100% full-on, no-holds-barred, exciting, chaotic, fiery party that has to be experienced to be believed!

As important to Hairball as the music are its fans. While many bands claim to have the best fans in the world, Hairball actually has! Whether they are 10 years old or 100, Hairball fans bring an unparalleled enthusi- asm and energy to the show that enhances the arena experience. Hairball knows it wouldn’t exist without its fans, and takes every opportunity to let them know that. Whether it’s a pre-show meet and greet, hanging out at the merch booth, or chatting online, Hairball has a lot in common with its fans and it’s always a good time when they get together.

Hairball is more than just a band, and certainly more than a tribute band.

Don’t confuse with the countless “80’s Tribute” bands across the country. is an experience, an attitude, and expression of music that isn’t simply a retro flashback. It’s a way of life, and it’s not going any- where soon!
